"Ideal customer profile" sounds like something you need a marketing department for. A workshop, a whiteboard, maybe a slide deck at the end of it. Most solo consultants and small agencies skip the whole exercise because of that, and just take whoever shows up and can pay. That's usually the actual problem, not a shortage of leads.
Working without one has a real cost. You end up saying yes to almost anyone, and some of those clients take far more time than they're worth. Your rates stay flatter than they should, because you never get to specialize in the work you're actually best at. And when you try to write a pitch or an outreach email, it comes out vague, because it's trying to speak to everyone instead of someone specific.
What an ideal customer profile actually is
Strip away the jargon and it's just a specific answer to one question: who do you do your best work for, and how do you recognize them. That's it. You need three things to make it usable: who they are (industry, size, the kind of role you'd actually be talking to), what makes them a fit right now (a size range, a location, a type of company you work well with), and a real signal that they're ready, something that actually happened for them recently, like hiring their first office manager or opening a second location.
The practical way to get there
You probably already know the answer if you think about your best clients so far, the ones you'd happily take ten more of. Write a sentence or two describing them like you're explaining it to a friend, not filling out a form. Then add the specifics: what size were they, what industry, what was going on for them right before they became a client.
That's already most of an ICP. You don't need special software for this first pass, just clarity. Once you have that sentence, you can search against it, write outreach that speaks to one specific kind of person instead of a general audience, and recognize a good-fit prospect faster than you could before.
This is the first step in this product too. Describe your ideal client in plain language, answer a couple of clarifying questions if anything's unclear, and you get back a structured profile you can immediately search real prospects against. No signup required to try it.
Once you have that profile, it's worth knowing what you're comparing it against. Most lead-gen tools assume you already did this exercise on your own. Here's how this one differs from the typical ones.
